Enhanced Feature in AutoCAD Map 3D 2016

Autodesk has recently released AutoCAD Map 3D 2016 software with an enhanced Hardware Acceleration option, refer to Figure 1. It gives the user a stunning visual experience to move or copy large datasets. In the latest edition of AutoCAD Map 3D 2016,  a High Quality Geometry (for capable devices) option, as shown in Figure 1 has been introduced to create high quality curves and lineweights, and to automatically turn on the Smooth Line Display option.

Pictometry: A Game Changer Technology

Pictometry, developed by Pictometry International Corporation, USA, is an emerging technology used for collecting aerial imagery and data by using drones. The pictometry imagery integrated with various GIS software is then used for various commercial, government, infrastructural, and international purposes.

Pictometry provides 1 foot or 6 inch natural color images depicting up to 12 oblique views shot from a 40 degree angle as well as an orthogonal (overhead) view of every location flown. These views can then be stitched together to create composite aerial maps that seamlessly span many miles of terrain.

Since the shots are taken from an angle, the pixels associated with Pictometry images are trapezoidal, rather than rectangular. This powerful visual intelligence when combined with the provided measuring and analytical tools leads to an efficient and accurate inspection and assessment of any resource.

Spatial Analysis: A Geographical Information System Tool

Spatial Analysis is a technique that professionals use to extract information from large amount of geographical data, map them in digital format, and then display them on maps, as shown in Figure 1. It can analyze business data, health data, environmental data, the data fire fighters use for finding shortest path in case of emergencies, and other such data. Spatial Analysis deals with large database and is a powerful tool that can be helpful in day to day activity such as location-allocation study, spatial relationship, etc.

Figure 1 shows Spatial Analysis

Geographical Information System provides various components to manage spatial data, compute spatial relationships such as distance, connectivity and directional relationships between spatial objects, and visualize both the raw data and spatial analytic results within a cartographic context. A user can view, plot, understand, and query the spatial database using a GIS platform.
